Phoenix was arrested alongside Emmy winner Martin Sheen. The actors were two of 300 people attending the protest which was organized by Jane Fonda at Jane Fonda's weekly climate change protest on Capitol Hill.
‘Joker’ star addressed the protesters at the rally saying that, “Sometimes we wonder what can we do in this fight against climate change, and there is something that you can do today and tomorrow, by making a choice about what you consume,” adding, “There are things I can’t avoid. I flew a plane here today, or last night rather, but one thing I can do is change my eating habits.”
He also told protesters that any effort to benefit the environment is helpful. Phoenix is also supporting Veganuary, a campaign to get people to move toward adopting a plant-based diet.
Phoenix won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Motion Picture for his brilliant performance in ‘Joker’. He is also considered an Oscar favorite for the best actor award at Oscars 2020.
